This study examines the role of excess or imbalanced vitamin intake during pregnancy in the central and peripheral pathways of food intake regulation in Wistar rat offspring. The study design was motivated by our prior work showing that excess multivitamin intake produces offspring with characteristics of the metabolic syndrome in adulthood. The current study focuses on folic acid and its imbalance with choline due to their role in epigenetic modification as modulators of obesogenic phenotypes with variations of metabolic outcomes that may arise in a sex-dependent manner.
