Global and sex-specific trajectories of hypertensive heart disease, 1990–2023: high-BMI attribution, SDI disparities, and vital-registration comparison

This repository supports the manuscript “Global and sex-specific trajectories of hypertensive heart disease, 1990–2023: high-BMI attribution, SDI disparities, and vital-registration comparison”. Version 2.0.0 adds the external empirical comparison with the WHO Mortality Database. The update includes reproducible WHO extraction and harmonization code, 291 processed matched country-years across 29 eligible countries, official GBD 2023 comparator age-standardized rates with 95% uncertainty limits, unrounded validation results, a data dictionary, and an updated source manifest. Raw WHO Mortality Database files and original IHME GBD exports are not redistributed. Users should obtain these files directly from the WHO Mortality Database and IHME GBD Results Tool. The source manifest records the official download locations, release or download dates, query specifications, input filenames, and SHA-256 checksums. The WHO–GBD comparison is a source-distinct empirical consistency assessment rather than fully independent replication because vital-registration inputs may contribute to GBD estimation. WHO ICD-10 I11–I15 hypertensive diseases and the modeled GBD hypertensive heart disease construct are related but not identical.
