The Role Of Fanaticism And Belonging To Team In Predicting Football Fans' Aggression Levels

Fan aggression is a societal problem that affects many sports clubs worldwide. To prevent individual and social aggression in sports environments, aggression should be handled with all its dimensions. The study aims to examine the effect of fanaticism on the aggression levels of football fans. The study sample consisted of 909 people, 474 males and 435 females. In addition to the personal information form, the “Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire” and “Football Fanaticism Scale” were used as data collection tools. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Analysis was used to determine the relationships between the variables, and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis was used to examine the predictive power of fanaticism on aggression. When the results obtained were examined, it was seen that the Tendency of Thought and Action towards Violence predicted physical aggression of individuals and Belonging to Team predicted all dimensions of aggression significantly and positively. In the light of the information obtained, it can be said that fanaticism is an essential predictor of all sub-dimensions of aggression.
