This study describes the development and validation of the Observing Principles of Teaching In School (OPTIS) protocol, addressing the need for a reliable and valid observation tool to identify applied teaching principles. The developmental validation process is detailed in a forthcoming publication in PLOS ONE. Inter- and intra-observer reliability, calculated with Gwet’s AC2 for two independent observers, demonstrated almost perfect agreement. Evidence for high predictive validity was obtained through multiple expert review rounds and strong theoretical foundations. Overall, results from both the test and piloting phases support the psychometric properties of the OPTIS protocol.The available datasets provide the observation data from the test phase and the piloting, enabling the calculation of inter- and intra-observer reliability.The available datasets provide the observation data from the test phase and the piloting for the inter - and intrareliabailiy calculations.
