Concentrations and size characteristics of anthropogenic fibers measured monthly in the Saigon River, Vietnam (2016-2017)

Anthropogenic fibers, gathering synthetic fibers (including fibers of plastic origin), artificial fibers (including fibers of plastic origin) and natural fibers were measured in the surface water of the Saigon River, crossing the developing megacity Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Bulk samples were taken monthly from July 2016 to December 2017. Samples were analyzed in the laboratory following a three steps digestion and a filtration. The filters, retaining the anthropogenic fibers, were observed by stereomicroscope with HD camera. The dataset presents the concentrations of anthropogenic fibers in each sample, and the individual length and diameter of the fibers.
