Arthur Hilton (East Yorks) was my grandfather, killed in action 3rd May 1915. He left a widow, Hilda Hilton, daughter Hilda aged 7 (my mother) and a son Leslie aged 3. Arthur Hilton is listed on the roll of honour in Beverley Minster and his name appears on the Menin Gate. Editor's Comment: Territorial Force Embodiment, Notice to Join: A Hilton to present himself at Headquaters at 5 am on 5th August 1914. Also list of necessaries to be provided in addition to uniform and equipment. From the effects of Serjeant 1062 Arthur Hilton, 1st/4th Bn. East Yorkshire Regiment, killed in action 3rd May 1915, aged 31. The husband of Hilda G. Brown (formerly Hilton), of 17, William St., Porter St., Hull, he is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. His battalion, as part of the 50th (Northumbrian) Division, was engaged in the Battle of St Julien, the second phase of the Second Battle of Ypres.
