Global School Infrastructure Damage Dataset (1960–2024)

This dataset compiles structured information on school infrastructure damage resulting from natural hazards worldwide between 1960 and 2024. Data were extracted from 294 post-disaster reconnaissance reports published by major international organizations, including EERI, GEER, EEFIT, StEER, Build Change, and the World Bank GRADE program. The dataset consolidates multi-hazard impacts across earthquakes, floods, landslides, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, and compound events. Each entry includes detailed attributes such as event date, location, hazard type, number of schools affected, structural failures, observed damage mechanisms, and where available, economic losses. Both automated and manual expert validation methods were used to ensure reliability, consistency, and completeness. The dataset is intended to support research on school safety, structural vulnerability, disaster risk reduction, and evidence-based policy development. It provides a unique multi-source, multi-hazard reference database for engineers, researchers, and practitioners working on resilient educational infrastructure.
