Draft genome sequence of uncultured bacilliform virus in snow crab. Chionoecetes opilio bacilliform virus

Infection of an uncultured bacilliform virus has been known in the snow crab (Chionoecetes opilio). It was reported that the virus morphologically resembles white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) or unassigned intranuclear bacilliform viruses (IBVs) reported from other crustaceans. However, the information of nucleotide sequence of this virus is lacking. We carried out the draft genome analysis for this unknown virus. The viral particles were purified from the hemolymph of an infected crab by ultracentrifugation. Genomic DNA from the purified virus was fragmentized to construct shotgun library with plasmid vectors. The libray was sequenced by a capillary DNA Sequencer and then draft genome sequence of this virus was generated by using Phred/Phrap/Consed.
