Mis-expression of GATA6 re-programs cell fate during early hematopoiesis

The traditional view of blood cell development is that myeloid cells are derived from the common myeloid progenitor (CMP) population and all lymphoid cell populations, including B cells, T cells, NK cells and plasmacytoid dendritic cells, arise from the common lymphoid progenitor (CLP) population. In the unique Max41 transgenic mouse strain, we demonstrate that misexpression of Gata6 prevents the generation of CLPs, and that CLPs are essential for the production of B lymphoid cells and pDCs but, surprisingly, not needed for the development of T cells and NK cells.
