X-ray Study of Tau-Sco-like Massive Stars

We request 50 ksec of XMM time to obtain EPIC spectra of two early B type stars,HD66665 and HD63425, which have observable properties similar to tau Sco.Specifically, they are both slowly rotating, magnetic early, main sequence Bstars with peculiar UV resonance line profiles. The proposed observations willdetermine whether their Xray spectra also contain an anomalously hard componentlike tau Sco.s. If so, the new observations will provide valuable insight intothe interaction of Xray and UV spectral characteristics and will demonstratethat tau Sco is not a simple curiosity, but rather the prototype of a class ofmagnetic stars which are, perhaps, part of a sequence, or a particularevolutionary phase of massive, magnetic stars. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
