Characterization of antimicrobial resistance genes in the enriched Enterobacteriaceae community of suburban mesocarnivores, stray dogs and owned dogs.

The goal of this pilot study was to investigate the occurrence, richness, and transmissibility potential of antimicrobial resistance genes in three mesocarnivore species (the coyote, raccoon, and Virginia opossum) and two types of domestic dogs (owned dogs and stray dogs). Shotgun sequencing was performed on samples that were pooled by mesocarnivore species and dog type (N = 5).
