Transgenic diploid Populus tomentosa plants were obtained via a method comprising four steps: acquisition of axenic Populus tomentosa seedlings, infection and transformation with Agrobacterium tumefaciens, screening of resistant shoots, and GUS staining and PCR detection of candidate plants. This method boasts multiple advantages including high transformation efficiency, short cultivation cycle and suitability for large-scale industrial production. The relevant research has been applied for a Chinese invention patent.
