No species from the order Pectinida was reported to symbiosis with chemosynthetic bacteria previously. Here, we report the first chemosynthetic bacterium (Proteobacteria: Gammaproteobacteria) associated with a dee-sea scallop Catillopecten margaritatus collected from the Haima seep in the South China Sea.
