Process for processing elongated workpieces made of wood， plastic and the like， and machine for carrying out the process

In the method， the workpieces are clamped between at least one upper and one lower jaw of a first clamping unit such that at least one side of the workpiece can be machined. The first workpiece is transferred from the first clamping unit to a second clamping unit， which has at least one upper and one lower jaw， which is clamped with the second clamping unit in such a way that further processing can be carried out on the workpiece. The workpieces are clamped horizontally during the transfer between the two clamping units， wherein they are still clamped vertically up to the horizontal clamping by the clamping jaws of at least one clamping unit. With horizontal clamping and vertical clamping released transverse to the longitudinal direction， the workpieces are displaced and then clamped vertically by the clamping jaws of the same clamping unit or the clamping unit receiving the workpieces. Then the horizontal clamping is released. As a result， the workpiece is always clamped during the transfer from the first to the second clamping unit， so that the risk of bending or twisting of the workpiece， for example due to internal stresses， is avoided.
