This MATLAB code computes the electron temperature during artificial heating in the ionospheric D-region between 60-120 km. Goal: This code investigate if meteoric smoke particles (MSP) influences the electron temperature during heating in the D-region. Electron attachment to MSP, which charges MSP negatively, reduces the electron density in the height regions where MSP are more abundant. There is less absorption of radio wave energy in the height regions with reduced electron density, which leads to an increased electron temperature within and above the height regions with reduced electron density. Most noteworthy features: We model the heated electron temperature with an electron density from a simple one-dimensional ionospheric model, developed by Carsten Baumann (see Baumann et al. 2013), which includes MSP as charge carriers.
