Surveys were taken by the Technical Sub-committee to run time checks and traffic counts and to test travelling and stop times in peak hour traffic in the Central Business District of the City of Sydney. Of particular interest are the time-distance surveys taken in major city streets, such as George, Pitt, Elizabeth, Castlereagh and Market Streets and the surveys of goods delivery to shops in Wynyard Concourse, Saturday morning traffic conditions in city streets on 14 July 1956, and traffic counts, time-distance surveys, peak hour parking restrictions and passenger checks on trams in King Street and Enmore Road, Newtown. Most survey files include copies of reports, calculations, graphs and tables. In addition, photographs of traffic conditions in the city and suburbs during the transport strike of November 1960 and of vehicles queuing to enter Grimes Parking Station, dated September 1960, and a printed report on traffic volumes in the city, dated October 1965, prepared by the Department of Motor Transport, providing information on traffic flow are included.(3/4901). 1 box.
