Altered Fecal Microbiota and Cytokine Profiles in Chinese Elderly with Hypertension: A Case-Control Study

Hypertension (HTN) represents a significant global health challenge, characterized by its complex, multifactorial pathophysiology. Recent evidence suggests that gut microbiota dysbiosis may play a pivotal role in the onset and progression of HTN, although the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely elucidated. In this case-control study, we investigated the gut microbiota composition of 206 elderly Chinese individuals (153 HTN patients and 53 healthy controls) using Illumina sequencing and assessed systemic inflammation using multiplex immunoassays.
