IARR 2021 The link between age and ideal partner preferences in a large, international sample of single women

The goal of this study was to investigate the association of age with ideal partner preferences in long-term relationships based on a large cross-cultural sample. Outcomes included preferences for kindness-supportiveness, attractiveness, financial security-successfulness, confidence-assertiveness, education-intelligence and parenting intention as well as age-range deemed acceptable. Hypotheses were preregistered and analyses are based on a sample of 17,254 single, heterosexual women from 148 different countries. Overall, age explained little variance in any of the partner preferences. However, age was positively associated with preference for confidence-assertiveness. In addition, we found a positive link between age and age-range deemed acceptable.
