Statuette of a seated man

Copy of original basalt. The protraited has taken a seat on a stool, his feet resting on a footstool. He is gaze frontal; the forearms rest on the thighs, which gives the figure a certain rigidity. The man wears a long beard and long hair that curls up on his shoulders. The ears protrude from the mass of hair; the eyes were inlaid in other material. As headgear is a so-called feather crown, which is looped around a ribbon. The long, probably short-sleeved garment he wears ends at the neck in a wide border, above the feet in a fringed hem. The left arm is decorated with a bracelet. The figure is block-like and designed for frontal and side views. Transitions between these and a round sculptural capture of the figure in the strict sense have not yet been achieved. All in all, the sculpture is comparable to the double-seated picture from the so-called culture room, to whose inventory it might have belonged. The expedition house was built above the culture room, so that the figures unearthed during the construction of the well were most likely placed here. In fact, when the room was uncovered, a number of similar figurines came to light.
