NRS-16246 | Operation Registers [Wallsend District Hospital]

These volumes are the record of all surgical operations carried out at Wallsend District Hospital. Each pre-printed volume typically records the following information about each operation: the date, the name and age of the patient, the nature of the operation, the surgeon, the anaesthetist and the anaesthetic administered, other medical staff in attendance, and any remarks on the operation. From 1940 each operation is assigned a running number from the start of the current financial year; later volumes also record separate series of running numbers for major and minor operations. From the 10th October, 1975, the time of day is also given. The volumes for the period from May, 1956 to September, 1969 are missing, but the series is otherwise complete. A separate, small volume runs parallel to the main series for the period from 30th October, 1967 to 9th September, 1978, but there appears to be no overlap between its contents and that of the other, larger volumes.
