CREATION OF AN EXPERIMENTAL MODEL OF TRAUMATIC CORNEAL INJURY

Corneal injuries of traumatic origin have their own specific characteristics, and such damage most often results in corneal opacity, which is a major cause of vision loss. According to literature analysis, this type of pathology accounts for 1.5–2 million cases annually. The development of an experimental model is fundamental for many subsequent clinical studies, including the creation of effective treatment methods for traumatic corneal injuries. Therefore, there is a need for a simple, reproducible, and standardized model of corneal injury, as well as for the selection of an animal whose corneal morphology closely corresponds to that of the human eye. Currently, research data indicate that the rabbit eye has significant advantages compared to other experimental animals in studies of the organ of vision.
