A treatise on the forty principal grades of existence from the Divine to the human nature. The author appears to be ‘ABD AL-KARÎM JÎLÎ. No title found. It is called مراتب الوجود by Ḥ. Kh. v. 486, and inscribed كتاب اربعين مراتب in this MS.

Begins:

الحمد لله الذى اعطى مراتب الوجود حقها الخ

The author, in the introduction, treats of the means of acquiring divine knowledge, and especially of the use of books for this purpose. He proceeds to say (fol. 3v.):

ثمّ اعلم ان معرفة الله تعالى منوطة بمعرفة هذا الوجود فمن لا یعرف الوجود لا يعرف الموجود .... ثمّ ان هذا الوجود يجمع امورا حقية و امورا خليقه ( خلقية.r ) فمنها امور كلية و منها امور جزئية .. فتفرع الى ذلك الاقسام و الانواع ... و لكن جميعها محصور تحت اربعين مرتبة من مراتب الوجود ... و بين كل مرتبة من هذه المراتب المذكورة و بين الاخرى مراتب كثيرة لكنها تدخل تحت احكامها فلاجل ذلك اقتصرنا على ذكر هذه الاربعين لانها اصول المراتب و ها انا اذكرها لك فى هذا الكتاب کل مرتبة فى محلها ان شاء الله لتعرف الوجود بمعرفة هذه المراتب و تعرف الله سبحانه و تعالى بمعرفة الوحود الخ

The gradation begins with the absolute essence, passes from the superlunar world to the elements, and thence ascends again through the natural creation to man. As to the latter, the author refers to what he has said in earlier treatises, viz.

الانسان الكامل قطب العجائب و فلك الغرائب ; - الحكم الربانية المودعة فى النشأة الانسانية ; كمالات الهيّة فى الصفات المحمدية ; انسان عين الوجود فى وجود عين الانسان الموجود - ; الرمز المرقوم فى سر التوحيد المجهول المعلوم and حقيقة الحقائق
