Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) -NGS sequencing and assembly

Colibacillosis is an important epidemiological and economic issue in poultry farming and breeding, however problematic is lack of common and uniform identification system of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli strains (APEC) that cause the disease. 109 E. coli strains isolated from poultry (broilers, laying hens, turkeys, geese), both from healthy individuals and with colibacillosis symptoms, were sequenced with the aim of identifying genetic features common for APEC pathotype. Basing on in silico analysis and a chicken embryo model three predictors of virulence were chosen and a PCR diagnostic test was proposed. In herein given project, 95 draft genome sequences of E. coli strains were collected.
