Hosting capacity of a distribution system refers to the amount of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) that can be accommodated without adversely impacting power quality or reliability under existing control configurations and without requiring infrastructure upgrades. The objective of the hosting capacity map is to provide increased transparency as to where Con Edison has hosting capacity, to provide developers, contractors, and customers visibility into potential DER locations and sites for private generation, and to understand how and where DER installation impacts the distribution system. This hosting capacity tool supports the advancement of DER integration and DER market growth by guiding the DER investment to grid locations where the cost of interconnection is potentially lower. Developers can access this visual aid before committing resources to an interconnection application. Con Edison continues to add new functionalities to the hosting capacity platform, with the goal of maximizing the value of the hosting capacity map to developers.
