The purpose of this dataset was to develop a methodology for the non-invasive 3-dimensional imaging and localisation of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) active nanoparticle (NP) powder buried within ex vivo mammalian tissue using spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SORS). The approach involved ratiometric analysis of the NP and tissue Raman signatures for z-depth profiling and ring-collection SORS during imaging to ensure accurate location of the NPs in the 2-dimensional x, y-imaging plane. The data contained within this research demonstrates how to accurately identify multiple objects at depth in a sample matrix which addresses a key capability in moving Raman spectroscopy closer to use in biomedical applications.
