Preventing conflict-related sexual violence: a feminist political economy analysis of prevention efforts in South Sudan and the Central African Republic.

How effective are current efforts to prevent conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) in South Sudan and the Central African Republic where the prevalence of this violence is high? This thesis examines three areas of prevention: criminal justice measures, direct engagement with armed actors and community level efforts with a feminist political economy analytical framework. It finds that current CRSV prevention efforts are not well supported by evidence of their effectiveness and rarely address fundamental causes of the violence. The thesis reframes what works to prevent CRSV, finding that addressing structural causes is vital to its prevention.
