The Sombrero: an edge-on spiral: halo dynamics comma a massive dark object comma and XRBs

The edgeon Sombrero. galaxy provides a special opportunity to:1. measure the morphology and spectrum of a hot gaseous halo in a spiral galaxywhich will determine its abundances. Model comparisons will determine whether itis inflowing, in equilibrium or a wind. The consequences for the gas origin(e.g. SNIa) and fate (escape and recyling or retention) are major for Sagalaxies. 2. Study Xray emission from a LINER nucleus with a dynamicallydetermined mass. Its spectrum and variability will unambiguously explore this regime, with consequences for ADAFs and the GBHCAGN connection. 3.
