NRS-21521 | Registers of patients - Public (Residents' books) [Balmain Hospital]

These registers, arranged in alphabetical divisions by surname, list public patients attended to at Balmain Hospital and provide information on the status of their clinical notes.For each patient, the volumes record: name, medical record number, discharge date and surname of resident doctor. Five columns to the right of each entry indicate the status of the patient's clinical notes, from awaiting diagnosis (all blank), through diagnosis, coding, taping, typing for signature, to completed (registered and filed). The first volume contains a key to these columns and instructions on how to find clinical notes.Most records are complete but, occasionally, some or all columns are not marked-off and are annotated, usually with the phrase “See P & I Book”. This indicates that the patient was private or intermediate and that the entry has been transferred to a different register (see NRS 21524). There are also instances where it is indicated that the patient was transferred to a ward or to the hospital's Glebe Annex.
