资源简介:
Napier grass, also known as Pennisetum purpureum, is a high-yielding and nutritious fodder plant widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions. In Bangladesh, Napier grass has become an important feed for livestock, especially for dairy cattle and other ruminants. It is known for its high biomass production and high digestibility, making it a preferred choice for farmers who need a reliable and cost-effective source of animal feed. Napier grass thrives in the warm, humid climate of Bangladesh, which provides ideal growing conditions. Its ability to grow on a variety of soil types, even those with low fertility, makes it accessible to a wide range of farmers. The grass is usually grown in fields, pastures, or as part of mixed cropping systems. Its rapid growth rate and high protein content make it a valuable resource in the livestock sector. Additionally, Napier grass can be harvested multiple times a year, providing a continuous supply of fresh feed. Farmers in Bangladesh often use Napier grass for feeding dairy cows, goats, and other livestock, and it is typically harvested at a young stage to ensure the best nutritional value. The grass is usually fed fresh, but it can also be dried or processed into silage for storage during periods of scarcity. Despite its benefits, one of the significant challenges associated with Napier grass is its high oxalate content, specifically oxalic acid. Oxalates are naturally occurring compounds found in many plants, including Napier grass. When consumed in large amounts, oxalates can bind with calcium in the digestive system, leading to the formation of calcium oxalate crystals. This can cause various health problems in livestock i.e., calcium deficiency, kidney damage, reduce growth and productivity. This data will help to explore oxalate causing gene and help to mitigate this oxalate production in Napier grass.
