RVI_Programme. RVI_Programme

The Respiratory Virus and Microbiome Initiative (RVI) is a 5 year programme of activity to research respiratory viruses and the microbiome and to develop sequencing methods to routinely sequence samples at scale, generating data and valuable insight to support public health decision making. Whilst the sequencing of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 virus) has demonstrated the benefits to be derived from large scale whole genome sequencing, there has been little sequencing activity for other clinically important respiratory viruses at scale. The RVI Programme at the Wellcome Sanger Institute seeks to address this. The long term goal is to develop methods and protocols can then be disseminated for routine use, and to make public available sequencing data from a range respiratory viruses.
