A dataset of vocal characteristics of avian from the Chebaling National Nature Reserve, Guangdong province

Birdsong constitutes a pivotal communication tool among avian species and holds a fundamental position in ecological and taxonomic research. It serves as a cornerstone of data for wild bird identification, classification system development, and biodiversity evaluation. Despite the existence of numerous comprehensive global birdsong databases, the geographical variability and dialectical nature of birdsong necessitate the establishment of specialized resources that encapsulate regional characteristics. This endeavor is crucial to precisely inform and enhance bird research and conservation efforts within specific ecological regions. During June, 2024, we employed active recording techniques to gather an extensive collection of birdsong recordings with 58 distinct avian species in the Chebaling National Nature Reserve in Guangdong Province. We measured spectrograms and their acoustic characteristics of these birdsongs with high-fidelity audio recordings. The quantified attributes encompass sentence duration, inter-sentence intervals, frequency extrema (both maximum and minimum) and frequency bandwidth. The compilation of this dataset offers basic resources for bioacoustics research and diversity monitoring of birds in Southern China, while also establishing a benchmark for the development of locally distinct birdsong databases.
