VPRS 17792 Admission and Discharge Register of Patients

This series consists of volumes outlining the admission and discharge of patients at Fairfield Hospital, previously known as the Queen's Memorial Infectious Diseases Hospital (VA 1231).Details recorded typically include:- patient's name- date of admission- admission number- address- nationality- occupation- disease- result (discharge or death)- date of discharge.From 1948, the registers also record general surgical and medical admissions due to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (amendment) Act No. 5240, which proclaimed in 1947 that Fairfield Hospital would allow the accommodation of general medical and surgical cases.Children constitute the majority of entries in the register, especially during the earlier years of Fairfield Hospital. The most common conditions recorded include Diphtheria, Scarlet Fever, Whooping Cough, Tonsillitis, Measles, Poliomyelitis and Rubella.The use of a physical register was discontinued in 1982 in favour of a centralised departmental database system.The Admission and Discharge Register of Patients was maintained in conjunction with the Statistical Register of Patient Admissions, Discharges and Deaths (VPRS 17794).
