Body size clines are common in vertebrates, but comprehensive data for
evaluating these trends can sometimes be limited. This dataset contains
body size measurements for adult Plethodon salamanders from the National
Museum of Natural History, Washington D.C., USA. It includes body size
measurements (snout-vent length: SVL) obtained from 96,966 individuals
from 45 species of Plethodon salamander, originally collected from 3974
populations for 3213 geographic locations in the Eastern United States.
For each individual, SVL was measured to the nearest 0.1 mm using Brown
& Sharpe Mark IV digital calipers.
