Population living within one mile of United States Toxics Release Inventory facilities from 1987 to 2024

Census-block-level dataset of residential proximity to U.S. EPA Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) facilities, covering all 38 reporting years 1987–2024. Locations of 64,502 unique facilities were joined to the internal points of 8,174,955 census blocks (50 states, DC, Puerto Rico) by exact WGS84 geodesic distance, with population held fixed at the 2020 Decennial Census. In 2024, 57,609,744 people (17.2% of 334,735,155 residents) lived within one statute mile of at least one reporting facility.
