The global demand for sand is increasing, as it is used for many things, including concrete production. The official data on the total exports of sand worldwide is incomplete, as global sand imports exceed the exports by significant amounts in most years. For example, in 2018, sand exports worldwide were recorded to be some 134 million metric tons, while sand import figures amounted to 544 million metric tons.
