Extremophiles in Antarctica during 1989-2004

Studies on biodiversity of microorganisms in Antarctica were carried out since
20 years. Particularly attention was made on those microorganisms defined for
their growth conditions extremophiles. The studies were also devoted to
cyanobacteria in that these prokaryoted are interesting for the studies on
earth evolution. Many new extremophiles were isolated belonging to bacteria
domain as new species of genus Bacillus, Halomonas, Micrococcus,
Alicyclobacillus. They were thermophiles and halophilic and alkalophiles.
Studies on lipid composition and its modulation under stressed growth
conditions were carried out. Exo- and endopolymers were isolated and studies as
well as hydrolytic enzymes.
