Writing, Drawing, Speaking is a constellation of approaches which both examine and perform the relationships between the acts of speaking, writing and drawing. This item contains the work 'Que Sera Sera' by Stephen Dutton, exhibited as part of the large scale exhibition A Share of a Future, which took place at the library galleries at China University of Mining and Technology, Beijing, 9 March - 30 April 2019.The work is a digital print, approx 6ft x 4ft. It pictures an image of a small child (the artist's daughter, aged 2). A text overlays the image which reads "What was, What is, What will be, What is 'was', What is 'is', What is 'will be', What was 'was', What was 'is', What was 'will be', What will be 'was', What will be 'is', What will be 'will be'". The text plays on the curiosity of the child's questions, but also on the nature both of language itself and the entire of time. The text ends on the comforting tone of the parent calming the child but saying "what will be will be".Image courtesy of the artist. Used with permission.
