资源简介:
Datasets are presented for analyses in Bouyoucos et al. (In Prep). See the 'metadata' text file for descriptions of individual .csv files and descriptions of column headings. Pacific spiny dogfish (Squalus suckleyi) were collected under Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada permits XR-139 2021 and XR-199 2022. Experiments were conducted under approval from the Bamfield Marine Science Centre Animal Care Committee (animal user protocols RS-21-03 and RS-22-10). This dataset supported a study that compared physiological consequences of recreational and commercial capture in a shark commonly encountered in both fisheries across its range. Dogfish were collected using both rod-and-reel and longline fishing methods, sampled for blood to quantify primary and secondary stress markers, and assayed for reflex impairment as a proxy for physiological status. These data provide new information on the resilience of Pacific spiny dogfish to recreational and commercial fisheries encounters and offer one of the few direct comparisons between these methods in any shark.
