The effect of excess dietary on murine microbiome

We sought to determine the effect of excess dietary sugar on the murine microbiome before and after colonic damage. Mice were fed standard chow, high fiber or high sugar diets for 2 weeks, fecal samples were taken and then mice were treated with dextran sodium sulfate to induce intestinal damage. Fecal samples were taken again after 6 days of DSS treatment and samples were sequenced. These results are relevant to patients that exhibit intestinal damage, such as Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and how diet may affect their microbiome.
