Lipopolysaccharide induced bone loss in rodent models: a systematic review and meta-analysis

The study objective was to assess if systemic administration of LPS induces inflammatory bone loss in rodent models. MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL Complete, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global, and Web of Science databases were searched for relevant studies and data was extracted. Animal and study characteristics along with bone outcomes from the following methods were included, calipers/measuring tape, dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, micro-computed tomography (μCT), mechanical strength testing, histology, dynamic bone histomorphometry, specific bone cell staining, blood biomarkers related to bone formation or resorption.
