South African parks and recreational facilities

The South African parks and recreational facilities OpenStreetMap (OSM) extracted dataset was developed as part of the Climate Risk Tool within the South African Risk and Vulnerability Atlas (SARVA). This dataset maps parks, green spaces, and recreational facilities across South African municipalities utilising point data extracted from OSM through the Overpass API. This dataset was created to assess the availability of green and recreational spaces within South African local municipalities. In the Risk Profiler framework, it contributes to the Quality of Life Index by evaluating access to leisure and recreational facilities. The availability and accessibility of these amenities serve as a proxy for overall well-being, liveability, and community health within the municipalities. All processing scripts used to generate this dataset are included in the download package for transparency and reproducibility.
