NRS-7970 | Indexes to copies of letters sent to officers of the department [Ministerial (Inspectors) Branch, Department of Lands]

Each volume contains a general index of letters arranged alphabetically by name of the officer, which gives the date of the letter, its subject, and the folio number of the volume in which the letter is found and the volume. There is a note in the front of the 1922 volume of the index: "From 22nd May 1922, letters are filed in Temporary and Permanent files, the latter to be retained as a permanent record, and the former destroyed after a period of 12 months. The letters filed temporarily are indicated by the letter 'T' in 'Vol' column of the index". Each volume also contains an index of circulars sent to various officers. The latter is arranged first under title of officers (eg. District Surveyors), then under name of district (eg. Armidale).
