Simultaneous Removal of Humic Acid and Nitrate by Iron-Carbon Micro-electrolysis Combined Autotrophic Denitrification

The presence of humic acid (HA) in secondary effluent poses significant challenges by negatively affecting processes like membrane filtration and disinfection. To counteract these effects, iron-carbon autotrophic denitrification technology can be applied for the simultaneous removal of HA and nitrate. This approach not only improves denitrification efficiency and mitigates iron passivation but also minimizes the adverse impact of HA on the overall process. Additionally, it sheds light on the microbial mechanisms involved, offering a practical solution for enhancing the long-term stability and effectiveness of autotrophic denitrification systems.
