A Comprehensive GNSS Dataset from the 41st Laura Bassi Expedition to Antarctica

Raw multi-band, multi-constellation GNSS observations recorded aboard the Italian research icebreaker R/V Laura Bassi (operated by OGS) on a closed-loop voyage from Trieste to the Ross Sea sector of Antarctica and back, from 26 September 2025 to 29 April 2026. The 216 daily files cover 216 consecutive UTC dates; only the first and the last file are partial, and no day is missing. The route passes the Panama Canal westbound and Cape Horn eastbound, spans about 120° of latitude and crosses the Antarctic Circle eight times. The receiver is a u-blox ZED-F9P-15B (firmware HPG L1L5 1.40) with a Tersus AX4E02 antenna and tracks the L1 and L5 bands of GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, SBAS, QZSS and NavIC. Version 1.1 adds the documentation files (metadata_*: README, IGS-style site log, NGS antenna calibration in ANTEX format, antenna installation record, daily file inventory, list of missing epochs, accuracy table of the observations, SHA-256 checksums) and corrects the description. The data files are unchanged from version 1.0. Files. ubx_YYYY_MM.7z (8 archives): raw receiver logs, one file per day (YYYYMMDD.ubx). rinex3_all.tar: RINEX 3.04, one folder per day with obs.crx.gz (Hatanaka-compressed, then gzipped) and nav.rnx.gz. metadata_*: documentation, see metadata_README.md. Zenodo has no folders, so the documentation files carry the prefix metadata_. UBX messages in the raw logs: UBX-NAV-PVT, UBX-NAV-HPPOSLLH, UBX-NAV-SAT, UBX-RXM-RAWX, UBX-RXM-MEASX, UBX-RXM-SFRBX, UBX-MON-RF (RF front-end and jamming indicator), UBX-MON-SPAN (256-bin on-board RF spectrum) and UBX-MON-SYS (receiver telemetry). Limitations. The absolute accuracy of the positions has not been validated independently. The dataset does not contain the attitude of the ship, meteorological data or differential code biases; products such as water vapour or absolute TEC need such auxiliary data.
