White-nose disease study, looking at gene expression in the late hibernation and one-month post hibernation stages of infected bats. UV-positive and UV-negative wing tissue were taken at each timepoint, to allow for the quantification of expression at the local site of infection. 8 individuals each were used from Myotis lucifugus, Pennsylvania USA, and Myotis myotis, Czechia. Infected bats were taken from caves from each location during the last quartile of hibernation, where the first samples were taken, with a positive or negative sample being taken from each wing. Bats were then kept in in-house bat facilities at their respective institutions, being fed ad libitum. Bats were monitored for one month, including recordings of skin temperature, mass, and UV-light and visible-light photographs. Samples were taken as before at this post-WND timepoint as before.
