Given the importance that studies in the field of epitranscriptomics have shown and the evidence that trypanosomatids have chemical modifications in their transcripts and protein machinery for these modifications, the present study had as its main objective to analyze the global gene expression profile of Leishmania americana by deleting the genes responsible for the TRMT6/TRMT61A and NSUN2 proteins. This proposal will expand some previously little-known aspects about the basic biology of these parasites, mainly with regard to the role of chemical modifications in their transcriptome.
