资源简介:
The Rohingya issue in Southeast Asia has garnered widespread attention due to its religious nature and allegations of genocide against the Rohingya ethnic minority in Myanmar. This study aims to explore the influence of Thai media on the attitudes of Thai people and Thai Muslims towards the Rohingya problem. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing documentary research and content analysis to gather secondary data on the history of the Rohingya people, Thailand's foreign policy on the issue, and Thai-Myanmar relations. Additionally, statements from Muslim organizations in Thailand are examined to understand the perspectives of Thai Muslims towards the Rohingya. The study found that despite the Rohingya's history as victims of persecution and violence, negative views towards them persist among the Thai government and general population. Even media attempts to convey sympathy for the Rohingya, such as Khun Tapanee's news presentation, did not significantly change public or government attitudes. Social media, particularly platforms like the Pantip web board, played a more significant role in shaping negative opinions about the Rohingya. However, there is a small but notable group of Thai Muslims who feel sympathetic towards the Rohingya and actively support them through various channels, including donations and fundraising efforts. The findings highlight the need to raise awareness about responsible media usage and consider regulatory measures to counter misinformation and hate speech.
