The assessments of the second longitudinal section (BiKS-8-14) of the BiKS-Study took place in primary and secondary schools in the states of Bavaria and Hesse starting in the spring of 2006 in the 3rd grade of 155 primary schools. The children of the 2,395 participating families were surveyed on three measurement points at a six-month interval. The majority of these children moved on to a secondary school in summer 2007. Along with new classmates (approx. 900), these children and their parents were then monitored at annual intervals across five times of measurement until the end of 9th grade. Beside the regular assessment of the children’s competencies, the participating young people, their parents and their teachers were interviewed. The focus of the longitudinal section BiKS-8-14 was on the different development and decision patterns of children before and after the transition to different school types at secondary level (Hauptschule, Realschule, Gymnasium).<br>
