The 30–20 cm soil layer is the active root zone for major crops and a critical horizon for soil water storage and transport. The interannual trend of heat flux in this layer serves as a core decision-making basis for agricultural, ecological, and water resources management. Lush summer vegetation extensively extracts soil water from the 30–20 cm layer via transpiration. By comparing heat flux values measured at the same time during summer high-temperature and drought periods (e.g., late July) across different years, a sustained interannual decreasing trend in heat flux may indicate two potential scenarios: first, increasingly dense vegetation with elevated water consumption leading to soil desiccation; second, a more arid and hot climate with amplified evapotranspiration demands that deplete soil water. This provides critical evidence for understanding how subtropical ecosystems respond to climate change and their water use strategies. By comparing heat flux values measured at the same time during winter—the period when soil temperature is most stable—across different years, a trend of increasing heat flux may stem from either increased winter precipitation (wetter conditions) or an enlarged diurnal temperature range; a trend of decreasing heat flux may be attributed to persistent winter dryness. This provides solid subsurface in-situ observational data for studying how climate change alters surface energy balance and soil hydrothermal dynamics.
