The CI2D3 Database is intended to document the locations of ice islands from their original calving event through drift and fracturing into multiple fragments. An attempt is made to track all fragments until they fall below 0.25 square kilometers. The initial focus was to monitor ice islands from the Petermann Glacier calving events of 2008, 2010 and 2012. Other ice islands that calved from this glacier in 2011 and 2013 were also tracked, as were a number of ice islands from other floating ice tongues in northwest Greenland.
